Program Highlights


Academic University-Based Training Program

  • Teaching and precepting by the academic faculty of Saint Louis University.
  • Residents can participate in community-based research, with top-notch resources and support from the Department of Family and Community Medicine research staff.

Longitudinal Underserved Community Curriculum

  • 12 day-long experiential workshops and lectures during PGY2.
  • Seminars in cultural competency and community-oriented primary care.
  • Curriculum that has been shared as a teaching model for residencies across the country.

Behavioral Health Integration

  • In 2016, we received $1.8 million five-year HRSA grant for Integrated Behavioral Health Training in collaboration with the SLU Medical Family Therapy training program.
  • Our Family Medicine Behavioral Health Collaborative Curriculum includes clinical training, experiential workshops, and lectures at Family Care Health Center, in the community, and at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital.

Maternity Concentration

  • For residents who wish to practice obstetrics this experience includes elective and continuity experience in prenatal care, labor and delivery and postpartum care, as well as an academic project.
